ONLINE SAFETY AND SMARTS
Basic Rules of Online Safety for Teens
1} Remember, when you are online in any kind
of public forum, anyone can read what you post.
2} You never know for certain if people you
meet online are who they say they are. Never
get together with someone you meet online without
talking to your parents.
3} Keep your identity private. Avoid giving
out any information that could
help someone determine your actual identity,
or the identities of family
members and friends.
4} Never respond to email, chat or messages
that make you feel
uncomfortable.
5} Talk with your parents about expectations
and rules for going online.
Communicating with parents does not mean that
you have to give up your privacy.
Guidelines for Parents
1} Talk with your teens about what they can
and cannot do online.
2} Be open with your teens and encourage them
to come to you if they encounter a problem online.
3} Learn everything you can about the Internet.
